Buying
in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario
At OttawaAgent.ca we follow a project plan to help you purchase your first - or next - home, cottage, condo, investment or other property.
We'll go over the highlights of that plan and many of your key considerations on this page. But first, may we present our prime directive for representing you:
We work diligently to "unsell" you on every property until together we find one that we are not able to do so. Then we help you acquire it on the best terms possible for you.
Our "UNselling" Directive
Out of context, that probably sounds a little crazy. What do we mean we "unsell" every property? Think about it - why do you hire a real estate agent to help you buy a home? Is it too complicated to book an appointment to visit a house by yourself? Is your lawyer going to charge you multiple thousands of dollars to complete offer paperwork for you? You could easily buy a house yourself, if you weren't counting on your realtor for something.
What is that something?
We believe it boils down to making you aware of, and helping you interpret every possible reason you might not want to purchase each property we encounter, so that you know what you're buying, and that while it may not be perfect (we haven't found a perfect property yet - though some are incredibly good), the flaws are ones you can happily accept when weighed against what you love about the home. Most agents bring to the table their "love of people and homes" or "great eye for design". They offer to help you find the "perfect" or "dream" home. They focus on what you like, or what they think you will like, and work hard to sell it to you.
We know the city, towns, rural and waterfront areas in Eastern Ontario from over 20 years of experience, and we are experts at helping you identify the best candidate properties to meet your wants and needs. But we know that you are the best judge of what you love about a property. It is hardly our place to try to convince you a property is the right one for you. And our ability to select the right curtains for a room is irrelevant. What you need is a highly knowledgable, dedicated researcher, and sober second source to help ensure you don't miss the drawbacks, or worse, regret your purchase.
Understanding Representation
House hunting guidance coming soon. In-person guidance available now - get in touch and let's talk about your objectives.
Honestly, we were so inundated with real estate ads on television we turned to good friends for advice. They had recently moved so we wanted to hear about their experience. They said “you have to meet our realtor Bruce Brown of ReMax”. Now I’m the skeptical one of the family so said what makes him so special?
Well, after meeting Bruce I understood why he was so highly recommended. He was the consummate professional, explaining the process, detailing neighbourhood comparables (he also represented us in selling our home first) but what convinced me that he was the right pick for us was his statement “you know Lynn, my job is not getting you to buy a house it’s to stop you or advise you against the house that’s not right for you”.
This man was so patient with us. We had umpteen questions, saw about 30 properties, adjusted our viewing area parameters as well as “need to haves”. He was a great source of info for recommendations on lawyers, inspections, contractors. Even after we bought our home he checked up on us to see if we had any questions about closing etc.
It all comes down to trust. We trusted Bruce’s experience, knowledge and character implicitly. He’s a stand up guy and I’ve already highly recommended him to family and friends. If you are considering selling or buying property please do yourself a favour and give Bruce a call. I’m so glad we did!
You’re such a gentlemen, Bruce. We’re impressed by your professionalism, value your experience, and admire your patience 🙂 It was a pleasure working with you too. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you’ve done for us.
